Classic Google Home Page 2011: Google Classic Account Setting

How do I get to the Classic Google Homepage? What Google Classic account setting is required? What browser Google address bar functions are available from Google Classic Home Pages? What different Google Search facilities are available when I get there?

What specialised Google Search functions can I access from my Classic Google Home Page? What Google Advertising Programs can be accessed from my Classic Google Page? What Google Business Solutions are available? What additional Google services and information are offered from my Google Classic Homepage? Where can I get information about each of the Google Classic Page functions?

All of these questions are answered in this article.for the new version of the Google Classic Homepage 2011.

How Do I Get To The Classic Google Page?

There are some methods that can be utilised to override the automatic redirection, bypass Google localized search and access the standard version of Google Web Search:

  1. If you usually browse in English then, at the bottom right hand side of your localized Google Classic Homepage, click on “Go to Google.com”. This will take you to the English version of the Classic Google Page.

  2. If you prefer, you can type “google.com/ncr("ncr" = No Country Redirection) in the Internet Explorer address bar, Firefox address bar, Google Chrome address bar or any other browser address bar. When you use this option the Google cookiewill override your current preference and save this new preference. It effectively switches off the Google geotargeting. The next time you access google.comyou will not be redirected to your local Google Search Page version..

  3. Google Advanced Search (Google Advanced Search in English- http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en) by clicking on [Date, usage rights, numeric range, and more] and then choosing the country from the drop-down list accessed from the down-arrow next to “Region” - choose “any region” or perhaps “United States”.

  4. You can obtain Google Web Searchresults from an alternative location by adding or changing the “gl” parameter of the URL, for example http://google.com/search?q=google&gl=usor http://google.com/search?q=google&gl=uk

  5. You can access 'GoogleTheGlobe' and click on the US flag.

  6. If you are located on a Google Web Search results page that is not localized (in iGoogle on Google Chrome for instance) you can click on “Classic Homepage” in the top right hand corner.

A full explanation of how to access the Classic Google Home that has no country redirection or geotargeting can be found in Search Google:Universal Search Google:Global Search Google: International Search Google:Worldwide Search Google by Humagaia, which also has information about searching without geotargeting.

What Browser Google Address Bar Functions Are Available From Classic Google Home Pages?

Internet Explorer Address Bar:

  • When you type a “query” in the Internet Explorer web address bar you are presented with the following options:

  1. Go to “query” by pressing [Enter].

  2. Navigate to 'Http://www.”query”.com' by pressing [Ctrl + Enter].

  3. Open “query” in a new tab by pressing [Alt + Enter].

  4. Open “query” in a background tab by pressing [Alt + Shift + Enter].

Mozilla Firefox Address Bar:

  • When you type a “query” in the Mozilla Firefox web address bar the following actions occur:

  1. The Firefox browser searches through web sites that you have visited and web searches that you have made previously

  2. Up to six options are presented for you to choose from. No options are shown if you have not searched for the query string before.

  3. Pressing [Return] on a new query brings back the Google Search Results Page.

Google Chrome Address Bar:

  • When you type a “query” in the Google Chrome web address bar the following actions are performed:

  1. The entered “query” is progressively completed as a website URL (if this is possible, as in starting a query with 'w').

  2. An option is given to do a Google Search on the letter-string entered to date.

  3. Up to 6 Google guesses are given as to what you might be entering as a “query”, progressively as the letter-string is entered, including some top Google Search queries.

  4. Where possible an option to 'See all pages in history containing' the initial letter-string parts of a “query”, for instance 'See all pages in history containing 'que'' ( the first three letter of 'query').

  5. This option could also give you the number of pages of history that has the sub-query string, for instance 'See 52 recent pages in history containing 'que''. These options change as the “query” is gradually completed. If there are no history pages with the sub-query string the this option is not shown.

  6. Options are presented where Google makes the assumption that you may have misspelt your “query”.

  7. No options are given if Google has no options available other than giving you the option to undertake a Google Search.

For all browser address bars that offer queries based on your search history, that search history option can only function if search history has not beed cleared or switched off.

What Different Google Web Search Facilities Are Available On My Classic Google Home Page?

Firstly, you should note that there is a new process that Google has incorporated into the New Classic Google Homepage 2010. This is the fade-in process where the functionality of the Google Classic Home Page 2010 is limited to the Google Web Search box until you pass your cursor over the Classic Google Homepage screen. So, if it looks as though links are missing, just scroll across the screen and they will magically appear.

The Google Homepage Classic is really the Google Web Homepage as can be seen by the 'Web' link at the top left of the Google Classic Homepage where the link is not highlighted in blue. Google Web Search searches through Google word indexes from web-sites with written content.

The Google Web Search box gives a drop-down query-completed list of most-searched queries for the sub-query entry to date. You can either:

  • click on one of the options (which could also be versions of what you have entered, for instance some punctuation may be inserted such as “What's” from “Whats” - remember these could give different search list results on the Google Search Results Page) or

  • complete your Google Web Search query and click on [Google Search] when your query is processed and the Google Search Results Page is presented with results, or

  • complete your Google Web Search query and click on [I'm Feeling Lucky]. You are then taken direct to a web-page that Google thinks best matches your search query, bypassing the Google Search Results Page.

Google Advanced Search

Access to the Google Advanced Search facility is gained by clicking the [Advanced Search] link to the right of the Google Search query box.

Google Advanced Search allows you:

  1. To enter search limiting functions;

  2. To increase the number of Google search results shown on the Google Search Results page;

  3. To search in an alternative language;

  4. To search within a site or in a different format, such as word or excel documents;

  5. To place date, regional, usage rights and SafeSearch constraints on the Google results retrieved;

  6. To find pages that are either similar to or link to the current web-page.

Google Frog is just a background that was available from "change background image" at the bottom of the Classic Google homepage.

Now, when you click "change background image", you can enter "frog" (or any other search term) into the search section and you will get a choice of all the pictures available to be made into a background for your Google home page.
